During X019, Sea of Thieves developer Rare announced its new exclusive IP for Xbox One - and it's giving us serious Breath of the Wild vibes. The Everwild team is focused on building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world. Since its acquisition by Microsoft, it's been focusing on games for the Xbox platform and it looks like Everwild is set to be a notable exclusive.Ĭraig Duncan, Studio Head at Rare wrote in the press release that, "While Everwild is still early in development, we are very excited about the unique potential of the game we are creating. It's a brand-new IP called Everwild, and looks like a frankly gorgeous cross between Breath of the Wild and Monster Hunter. Rare has created some beloved franchises over the years, including Banjo-Kazooie and its spiritual successor Yooka Laylee. Rare, the studio behind some of the best games on N64 and more recently Xbox One's Sea of Thieves, gave the world its first look at at its latest project tonight during X019.
While the plot is by no means shoddy, its ultimately a better game for letting the player decide their own pace. We're not quite sure what the gameplay will be like, but the Everwild trailer (embedded below) suggests it'll be a bit like Monster Hunter World - without killing the monsters. Breath of the Wild takes a very hands-off approach to pacing much like in sandbox games like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the player could have a well-rounded experience with this game without ever touching the main plot.
